Susan Beilby Magee is an author, spiritual teacher, meditation guide and lifelong advocate for a more conscious relationship between humanity and the natural world.

Her newest book, Wild Conversations: The Wisdom of African Animals, was inspired by extraordinary encounters with wildlife during three transformative African safaris. Through more than 120 photographs and two dozen reflective vignettes, Susan shares the wisdom she received from lions, elephants, cheetahs, giraffes, leopards, hyenas and more than twenty other species.

What began as a series of powerful personal encounters gradually became a larger message about humanity’s weakening connection with nature. Susan’s experiences invite readers to consider what animals may be communicating, what the natural world can teach an overwhelmed and disconnected society and what must be protected before it is lost.

For more than four decades, Susan has explored healing, consciousness and spiritual connection as a hypnotherapist, energy healer, meditation teacher and guide. From 2002-2020 she founded and led two meditation circles: first the Washington Circle of Master Healers and then the Circle of Prayer and Meditation at the Washington National Cathedral.

Susan is also the author of Into the Light: The Healing Art of Kalman Aron, which tells the story of artist and Holocaust survivor Kalman Aron and explores the relationship between creativity, survival, hope and healing.

Before devoting herself fully to spiritual practice and writing, Susan built a distinguished career in women’s rights, public service, government and international business.

A pioneering leader in the 1970s women’s movement, she served as Co-President of the National Organization for Women and President of the Washington State Women’s Political Caucus.

As a contributor to Seattle’s landmark Seattle 2000 Commission, established by Mayor Wes Uhlman to envision the city’s future, Susan authored the commission’s report on Social Justice and Human Resources. Her contributions helped expand the city’s vision beyond traditional urban planning to include equity, human rights, fair employment, social services and civic participation.

Later, the Mayor appointed her as Director of the Seattle office of Women’s Rights, where she worked to advance gender equality and address institutional discrimination.

In 1976 President Gerald Ford selected Susan as a White House Fellow. She went on to hold policy and executive roles within the United States Departments of Treasury and Commerce before becoming an international business consultant.

Susan earned an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in International Relations from Pomona College.

Through her books, teaching and spiritual practice, Susan explores the connections among healing, consciousness, compassion and the living world. Her work encourages readers to listen more closely, live more consciously and remember that humanity is not separate from nature, but part of it.
